Different Jobs In Comics

In the comic book industries, there are different positions for artists.
But, an independent comic book artist can choose to work on his/her comic book alone if he/she is good in all these areas which are: Plotting, Penciling, Inking, Lettering, and Coloring.
The following are different jobs in the comic book industries.

  • Writer
  • Penciler
  • Inker
  • Letterer
  • Colorist

Writer
A writer comes up with plot and story.

Penciler
A penciler draws the comic art in pencil. (This process is called penciling)

Inker
An inker goes over the pencil drawing with black pen and marker.
(This process is called inking)

Colorist
A colorist colors either digitally or traditionally.
(The process is called coloring)

Letterer
A letterer fills the balloons and narrative boxes with letters and also does the sound effects and label texts.
(This process is called lettering)
