Apart from the fact that we are entertained by comics, there are several other things which should be noticed about comics and there are the reasons why everyone should read comics.
Some comics stories won’t only entertain you and your family, they also give you and your family an education which would make you want to read more comics that may have something like facts to uncover, just like the following

What you just learnt from that comic strip was not what that attracted you, but the cartoon characters and dialogues, you wanted to know what they are saying. Imagine giving a little school child the facts in the comic without cartoon characters, the child may find it boring just by looking at it, but if the facts were made into comics, the child would surely find it interesting and would want to read without hesitation.
This is how comics develops a reading habit in a person. They are also lots of comic books that has historical facts in them and lots more that educates in science, technology, etc. Comics will develop your knowledge in lots of things, if you consider them as part of the kind of books you read.
However, they are other comics that would only tell you fictional stories to entertain you, even these sort of comics still do you good, because they will help you develop reading skills required to comprehend texts with higher level of difficulty.
When people read comics, they learn how to process information differently.
These are part of the reasons why Sequential Art students will do great when it comes to anything that has to do with Literature and visual arts as well.
“Evidence and research are stacking up to prove that comic books make their readers smarter. Comic make you want to read and they use complex language which improve verbal intelligence. Like steroids for the mind, comics can even take struggling readers and make them stronger”

I believe some schools are now embracing the benefits of comics, because of how comics engage students in reading and also improve their verbal intelligence.
Comics and the books that teaches comics, such as Sequential Art textbooks, would help little school children in lots of ways which would be of benefit to them, especially future storytellers and artists among them, if they are recognized by schools like they are so recognized in some countries like USA, Canada and England now.
